It has come to our attention that "some" on the forums and else where are saying that "they cannot find a reputable plater." Whats more they say that the chrome looks terible and it comes off.
I am here to set this myth right. These folks are NOT telling the truth. Yes it is possible this has happened in very limited instances. As far as Metaloy is concerned this does not happen with our plating. Our warranty has always been that IF it fails in any way, we refinish it at no cost to the customer. Period!
The internet is a wonderful thing. It can also be a way to spread grossly inaccurate information. Please check things out for yourself. Don't take as fact anything you see or hear mo matter what it sounds like. Many myths floating around get perpetuated. Do research for yourself. Ask others that have had a particular service performed and get their personal take on things.
Response:
What Mr. Silvia does NOT say in his comment below among many other expilicit words is that he SAID in an email to send it back if not completed. WE did send it back and he is just mad because he had to wait. WE were not able to satisfy Mr. Silvia in any way so it is best that we part ways.

Again we must write and explain the way we work to our customer base.
We recently stopped plating Glock Slides as some know. The reasoning behind this is partly that we always want everything that leaves our shop to look its very best. Some people have a different view of what to expect or their own idea of what looks good.
The Glock SLides have always been difficult to plate properly. I think due to the type of steel used, the thickness of the slide component and the black coating used by Glock at the factory. Many other factors enter in as well that will not be discussed here. We only have control over a few of these.
With those facts we have decided to stop the plating of Glocks Slides rather than put out substandard work.
As in the past our work will continue to speak for itself. We will continue to produce the highest quality finishes and service in the industry. Substandard work can be obtained just about anywhere these days. Real quality must be sought out carefully. We always want the Metaloy name to be synonymous with quality.

Metaloy may have found an import/export firm to handle firearms coming in from foreign countries for our finish work and more.
I mentioned on a forum few years back about accepting firearms from Canada for work. Soon that may be a reality. We are in discussing stages with a firm that maybe able to handle the import and export regulations and paper work. Metaloy wants to be able to offer our services for everyone. Following all firearms regulations both US and foreign. Stay tuned for more information.

We are currently building a 70 Series Colt 1911 that will be for sale when it is completed. We do not normally do this but we have not built a gun in awhile and we came up with a very clean 70 Series Government Model of 1974 manufacture. Hand cut checkering, premium parts, Heinie Ledge tritium sights are some of the parts we are using. It will be 100 % built & finished by hand. Most likely finished in our Metaloy hard chrome.
We have this information posted on our Facebook page as well as here on our blog. Stayed tuned for updates on this truly one of a kind hand built Colt.

Metaloy may begin to carry the Osprey Defense AR15 Gas Piston System in the near future. Visit www.gaspiston.com if you are not familiar with them. We have one on order for testing & evaluation. We will keep this updated as to our testing. You can view Ospreys testing via videos on their site.
The advantages of a gas piston system in the AR rifle is the rifle runs much cooler and the hot dirty gas are exited out the front of the rifle instead of into the upper as per conventional impingement systems. Cleaner, cooler, more reliable. Another advantage of the Osprey system over others is Osprey is not a permanent conversion. It is literally a 5 min. install. We believe between cost, ease of installation, reliability...Osprey may be a real winner.
UPDATE:
6/30/2010
I just got the Osprey Gas Piston system installed this morning. I had to find a lathe and turn my barrel down from .950" to .875". Osprey says this system only works with barrels of .875" or smaller. They are working on a system for the larger barrels to avoid turning barrel down.
Anyway I went out to run some round through my CAR15 and it runs flawless! I am keeping this on my CAR and will run various rounds through it to see how it works in the long run. I think we have a quality product that does what it claims. Nothing but cool, clean, smooth running CAR15's with this system.
